The Curiosity Approach

At Casa Tierra we follow the Curiosity Approach to the children’s learning and are in the process of becoming accredited.

The Curiosity Approach draws from leading pioneers in the development of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning, including Maria Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Rudolf Steiner and Emmi Pikler.

It is a completely play-based and child-led approach, where the children become the centre of their own development. They are encouraged to explore, create and experiment using the resources we provide to lead themselves in learning. This is all facilitated by our trained and passionate staff.

A sense of Awe

The focus of the approach is to foster and develop a sense of awe and wonder in the present moment for each child; allowing them to engage and interact with carefully chosen resources in a way that allows them to develop their understanding of the world around them.

Rather than being given lots of pre-formed toys to play with, we provide the children with resources they can build upon. This moves them away from simply being entertained by a toy, to becoming master creators, doers, inventors, and explorers.

This approach also engenders collaboration between children, helping them to build positive relationships with those around them.

Effective Teaching

The Curiosity Approach greatly supports the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning as set out by The Department of Education’s (DfE) Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework 2021:

Playing and Exploring

Playing and Exploring

Children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

Active Learning

Active Learning

Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

Creating and Thinking Critically

Creating and Thinking Critically

Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things
